New pages: Events and Sources-of-stuff

February 5, 2009

I opened two new pages:

Upcoming Vintage Computer Events is about events that deal with vintage computing.

The next one is the “5. Waiblinger Usertreffen” (5th Waiblingen User meeting” of the “Verein zum Erhalt klassischer Computer” (Society for the preservation of classical computers).

Where to get stuff in the Internet is about what sources in the Internet exist from which you can buy/trade/get old computers.

The avalanche theory on rare computer sales on Ebay

February 1, 2009

Some models are very rarely offered at Ebay, but if they are it is no uncommon to suddenly find another offer from a different seller soon after it although there were no such offers for months.

I think that some people having old computers and wonder what they would bring at Ebay, so they follow the auctions. Now, if they see their model offered and achieving a good price or good offers, they also decide to offer their computer.

This was lately the case when a Canon Cat was offered (as I wrote), and then suddenly another Cat (although broken) was offered.

I’m wondering whether this means that, if we want to buy a certain model, we have to fake a sale with a good price on Ebay and wait until a real owner of this device decides to sell it for this price 🙂
